Dr. Neil Eastham, DVM, a reproductive veterinarian and Nuffield Farming Scholar from the United Kingdom, will present a special CGIL Seminar on Tuesday, October 16th. The seminar will begin at 2:30 pm in room 141 of the Animal Science & Nutrition building.
Neil grew up on a Lancashire dairy farm where his family continues to milk 340 pedigree Holstein cows. He studied at the University of Liverpool for his undergraduate degree in Veterinary Science and after graduating in 2007 he joined Bishopton Veterinary Group in Ripon, North Yorkshire as a farm animal vet. He returned to academia, again at Liverpool University, completing his Diploma in Bovine Reproduction in 2014 and in January 2017 he became a partner in the practice. Bishopton Veterinary Group is a thirty-five vet multi-discipline practice that operates from five branches across North Yorkshire. As one of fourteen dedicated ruminant vets Neil is responsible for veterinary care across a large number of commercial farms. In his role as an advanced breeding director of RAFT Solutions Ltd. (a sister company of Bishopton Veterinary Group), Neil is responsible for delivering advanced breeding solutions on farm including; embryo collection and transfer, ovum pick up/in-vitro fertilization and bull breeding soundness examinations. A proportion of his time is also spent delivering training for both farmers and vets. He has a special interest in dairy genetics and the role that this plays when considering all aspects of herd health.
The Centre for Genetic Improvement of Livestock welcomes all interested University of Guelph staff, faculty, students, and industry or academic collaborators to attend our CGIL Seminars, which are held on Friday afternoons throughout the Fall and Winter semesters.
